CHANDIGARH: For a 30,000 Pounds gift, a man shelled out Rs 8.72 lakh in different portions only to realise after a while his Facebook friend from the UK was a fraudster.
Yasveer Singh, a resident of Manimajra, said he met a woman named Tina Francis online in January and both started chatting. As the two became friendly, the woman on January 29 promised to send him a gift. Two days later, Singh got a call. The caller told him a parcel from London in his name had arrived at the Delhi airport, but to claim it from the customs he had to deposit Rs 33,500 as clearance fee. A bank account number was provided.
