Chandigarh: Electric bus of 2nd batch to hit roads on June 28

CHANDIGARH: To reduce air and noise pollution and dependence on fossil fuels, UT administrator Banwari Lal Purohit, accompanied by MP Kirron Kher, will flag off the first vehicle of the second batch of 40 electric buses on June 28 from Punjab Raj Bhawan.

The city will get its 40 buses of the batch by August 15. The one that will be flagged off on Tuesday will be the first prototype for a trial run. As per the transport department's plan, these 40 buses will come in two phases: the first lot of 19 will reach by July 15 and the remaining 20 by August 15.

The UT transport department has made all arrangements for the trial, which will be monitored by senior officials. In April, UT had submitted before the NGT that 40 more electric buses will be added to its current fleet.

The administration had finalised a company to run the environment-friendly buses on km scheme at the rate of Rs 44.99 per km, which was cheaper by Rs 15 per km as compared to the work allotted earlier for the 40 buses of the first phase.
