Chances of Liverpool heatwave over August Bank Holiday weekend

The August Bank Holiday is just around the corner and people will be hoping for Liverpool to be basking in the sun over the three day weekend.

The second heatwave of the year hit Liverpool earlier this month and families flocked to the region's beauty spots. It was followed by milder temperatures this week, but the city has basked in the sun once more today (August 20).

With the three day weekend approaching, people will be hoping for the sun to shine so they can make the most of time off work. However, it looks as if temperatures in the city will not hit the levels of a heatwave, though the weekend looks as if it will begin in a sunny manner.

The latest forecast from BBC Weather states that Saturday (August 27) will see highs of 19C in Liverpool, with sunny intervals and a gentle breeze expected. Sunday (August 28) could be warmer but with less sun - the forecast predicts a high of 20C in the city, with light cloud and a gentle breeze.

A similar forecast is in place for Bank Holiday Monday (August 29), with the BBC again predicting a high of 20C with light cloud and a gentle breeze. The weather looks set to improve once most people are back at work, with sunny intervals and highs of 21C predicted for Tuesday (August 30) and Wednesday (August 31).

In general, the country should expect dry weather over the next couple of weeks, though some showers and strong winds could develop in the North West.

The Met Office's long range forecast for the country, covering August 25 to September 3, states: "After an unsettled week, settled conditions are expected to spread over the UK during this period, bringing fine and dry weather to most places. Stronger winds and some showers are likely in the north and northwest, and further thundery showers are also possible across the south and southeast in the early part of the period.

"A northwest/southeast temperature split may also develop, where cooler air will characterise the north, with the south becoming very warm and perhaps feeling humid. By the end of this period fine and dry weather is likely to prevail for many, albeit with the odd shower again in the south and northwest. Light winds are likely with plenty of sunshine, and temperatures generally warm or locally very warm in the south."
