A fresh warning for thunderstorms has been issued by Met Eireann for the entire country from 7pm.
The status yellow weather warning comes into effect at 7pm and lasts until 3am on Monday morning.
A Met Eireann forecaster said: "Heavy rain along with a few thunderstorms will spread northwards over Ireland. Lightning and spot flooding in places."
It comes as European Storm Forecast Experiment have said that the conditions this evening bring the threat of localised tornadoes.
The European forecasters said: "Intense lift from accompanying mid-level troughs will likely create two forced convective rainbands in an environment that is favourable for severe wind gusts as well as tornadoes."
The horrid conditions will persist overnight and despite some morning respite, the rain looks set to be back on Monday evening.
A Met Eireann forecaster said: "It will continue rather windy tonight. Heavy rain along with a few thunderstorms will spread northwards over Ireland. There will be spot flooding and lightning in places. Clear spells and isolated showers will follow from the south later. Lowest temperatures of 9 to 12 degrees with moderate to fresh southeast winds, strong at times near coasts.
"Mostly dry on Monday morning with sunshine. However, cloud will build during the day and showery rain will spread gradually northwards over the country. There will be some heavy and thundery downpours bringing a possibility of some spot flooding. Highest temperatures of 17 to 21 degrees in a fresh and gusty southeast breeze."
