Championship club hand trial to 'fantastic talent' released by Liverpool

Preston North End boss Ryan Lowe has said that he hopes his club can get something out of recently released Liverpool defender Ben Woodburn.

Woodburn became the Reds' youngest ever goalscorer in 2016 but injuries and new signings saw the Welshman get sent out on loan in search of regular first-team football. The 22-year-old spent last season on loan at Hearts in Scotland and upon his return to Merseyside in the summer, ended his 10-plus years at the club.

A former Kirkby academy graduate himself, Preston manager Lowe said that he previously tried to bring Woodburn in on loan when he was at Plymouth but failed due to the level the club were at. However, now that he has secured the midfielder on a trial, Lowe is hopeful that he can get him back on track.
