Arsenal will face Atletico Madrid in the Champions League semi-finals, while Bayern Munich have been drawn against holders Paris Saint-Germain.
The Gunners are now the only Premier League team left in this season’s competition after overcoming Sporting CP 1-0 on aggregate in the quarter-final, following a low-key goalless draw in the second leg.
Standing in Arsenal’s way of reaching a Champions League final for just a second time in their history is a Atletico side that surprised many by beating pre-tournament favourites Barcelona.
Atletico, leading 2-0 from the first leg, managed to survive a spirited comeback attempt by their LaLiga rivals in the second leg to progress 3-2 on aggregate as January signing Ademola Lookman ultimately proved his worth by scoring the decisive goal.
This will be the second meeting between Arsenal and Atletico this season after Mikel Arteta's side ran out 4-0 winners in the league phase, but Madrid do have history of eliminating the Gunners in a European semi-final.
Should Arsenal avenge their 2018 Europa League semi-final defeat to Atletico, they will meet either PSG or Bayern Munich in the Champions League after they overcame Liverpool and Real Madrid respectively.
PSG were impressive over two legs against Liverpool, continuing their recent dominance against Premier League teams but will face a difficult test in hopes of retaining their European crown.
Champions League semi-final first leg matches are scheduled to be held on April 28/29, with the return fixtures taking place a week later.
