Former Liverpool and Real Madrid forward Michael Owen has backed the Reds to run out winners in the upcoming Champions League final.
The Reds take on the Spanish giants in Paris on Saturday evening and will be aiming to complete a cup treble under Jurgen Klopp this season, despite the disappointment of failing to beat Manchester City to the Premier League crown.
Elsewhere, Real will certainly be keen to add to their historical haul of European crowns with their 14th success. Owen though is backing his first professional club Liverpool to get the job done at the Parc des Princes and has warned Real not to get too confident.
Speaking with the Daily Mail, the ex-striker said: "I think Liverpool are better than Madrid and they could blow them away. 3-1 or 3-0 is my prediction. I think they could beat them reasonably convincingly because they are an exceptional team at the minute and are too good for Madrid.
He continued: "Madrid have just done phenomenally well to get to the final. I'm sure they believe their name is on the title what with scrapping through the group stage and then of course Chelsea was incredible how they got through that. Manchester City was just mind-blowing how they beat them as well.
"But I think Liverpool are so experienced and so good. They won't want to get into a grind with them because I think Madrid are the ultimate team when it comes to know-how and winning close games."
Who do you think will win this weekend's Champions League final? Have your say in the comments below.
The upcoming clash in the French capital represents Liverpool’s fourth European final in all since the arrival of Jurgen Klopp. He lost his first two with the defeat to Sevilla in the Europa League final, before Real Madrid were then successful in the last Champions League meeting between the two clubs.
Klopp of course managed to lead the Reds to their sixth European title with a 2-0 success against Spurs in 2019. The German has suggested that he is putting thoughts of revenge against Real out of his head ahead of the game.
As quoted by UEFA, he said: We played them; we lost. What kind of reaction would you want to show for yourself?
“The fun part of it is, we played against Madrid in Kyiv [in 2018], we won it in Madrid [in 2019]; it was a different stadium [Atlético's Estadio Metropolitano] and now we play Madrid again. So, obviously, when we are in a Champions League final, Madrid is always somehow involved.
There's the feeling that we want to put things right, definitely, but it cannot be the main thought. If we go there [saying] like, "Revenge! Payback!" all these kinds of things, it doesn't work like that. That's not us.
“We came here to the final in a different way. So, we have to play our way and that's what we have to try.”
