Champion Boston Celtics alumnus James Posey is going to be back in the NBA as an assistant coach according to recent reporting from ESPN NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski. Per Woj, the former Celtics forward will join the Washington Wizards coaching staff under head coach Wes Unseld, Jr.
Posey, a member of the Celtics’ 2008 title team with Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen, and Paul Pierce, made the leap to coaching with the Cleveland Cavaliers after retiring as a player, starting as an assistant with their G League developmental affiliate, the Canton Charge. He would then join Ty Lue as an assistant with the parent club, spending five seasons with the Cavs before joining the University of Virginia women’s basketball program.
The two-time champ (he also won a ring with the Miami Heat in 2006) will bring his 12-year playing career and more than a half-decade coaching career to bear with the Wiz in the 2022-23 NBA season.
