Challenge Bolton face when seeking repeats of Manchester City & Liverpool loan success stories

Ian Evatt says Bolton Wanderers are always looking for the next loan market opportunities from top Premier League clubs but need to ensure top flight youngsters fit in culturally with the club to help ensure success.

Wanderers have three Premier League prospects with them for the campaign. Goalkeeper James Trafford has returned on loan from Manchester City after a successful spell at the second half of last season.

Two Liverpool youngsters have also joined on loan for the season. Right wing-back Conor Bradley has been joined by fellow Anfield prospect Owen Beck, who operates on the other side of the pitch.

Beck made his second appearance for Bolton in midweek during the 3-0 win in the Papa Johns Trophy over Leeds United's under-21s. Trafford and Bradley have cemented themselves as first choice selections in their respective positions.

Games such as the midweek clash against Leeds' youngsters represented an opportunity to check out first hand some of the up and coming talent at a Premier League side. Evatt says the Whites are always looking for fresh talent.

He admits the loan market in that pool of players can be tricky though, as the targets must be able to fit in culturally at Wanderers. Though Wanderers have had success with the likes of Trafford, Bradley and Beck, Evatt highlighted future targets must be right off the pitch for Bolton, as well as on it.

He told the Manchester Evening News : “We’re always looking, there’s no doubt about that. We’re always trying to get the right players in the right position for us and the loan market is sometimes difficult, especially from that pool of players because we don’t know how they’re going to fit culturally.

“It’s really difficult and when we do recruit, we want them to make a difference to us and not affect what we’re already doing. That means in the changing room or on the pitch, so that can be challenging.

“We’ve done really well with Conor and Traff and Owen who is a wonderful young man to work with since he’s been here. We’re always on the lookout for fresh talent who we think can improve us, but it has to fit culturally, it’s not just about what they do on the pitch.

“It has to be right off it as well.”
