Challenge Anneka to return to TV after 30 years

TV Presenter Anneka Rice has confirmed that a revival is taking place of her iconic '90s show, Challenge Anneka. She confirmed the news on Twitter to the delight of her fans. In a video entitled, 'OMG!', she said, wrapped up in bed: "I wanted you to be the first to know that we're about to do a new series of Challenge, 30 years on" before pulling back the sheets to reveal Dave the Soundman, who is there holding a boom pole - in a nod to his constant presence in keeping up with Anneka in the original series.

In the video, Anneka asked viewers to take "a long, deep-dive into the bottom of [their] wardrobe" to dig out their "1990s lycra". She described it as, "clubbing-gear", before revealing that she was wearing a pink and blue get-up.

The format of Challenge Anneka involved Anneka being given a task to accomplish within a certain period, usually two or three days. She was supposed to have no knowledge of what the task of each particular episode would be before it began, and would have to organise its accomplishment by persuading companies and people to contribute their time and resources for free. The task would usually be in aid of a charitable cause, for example building a play area for children within the local community, or something similar. 'Dave the Soundman' made regular appearances on the show.

Anneka, 63, would be based during the 'challenges' in a large blue truck, and for her frequent trips to persuade companies and people to take part she initially employed the use of a Volkswagen based beach buggy, and then went on to use a kit built Dakar 4x4 vehicle in the 1990s.

Writing on Twitter, the news has excited fans. CazHallArt wrote: "OMG! Can we also bring back treasure hunt[sic]?"

Mark Lewis simply put: "OMG my youth."

Paul Stanworth asked: "Anyone else still got the board game?"

Since hosting Challenge Anneka, the presenter, who was born in Wales, has had a colourful career and appeared on a huge variety of television programmes including Come Dine with Me, Hell's Kitchen, Strictly Come Dancing and most recently, The Weakest Link.
