Russell Wilson is expected to be one of the highest profile free agents of the NFL offseason, as the Denver Broncos have already publicized their intent to release the quarterback. While Wilson is not the player he once was, he still may get a chance to start with the right team.
There are many teams that could be looking to add a quarterback, but former wide receiver Chad Johnson said he’s hearing one team in particular could go after Wilson.
“A little birdie told me, and I said this many shows ago, Russell Wilson coming on over there to the Steelers,” Johnson said on his Nightcap Show podcast with Shannon Sharpe.
Sharpe suggested that Pittsburgh may actually trade for Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields, but Johnson claims Fields is headed to the Atlanta Falcons instead.
“I told you, I got the script,” Johnson said.

The Steelers could be looking for a veteran to compete with Kenny Pickett, who is entering a pivotal third season in the NFL. In 2023, Pickett played in 12 games and totaled just 2,040 passing yards, six touchdowns and four interceptions, finishing the season with an injury.
Pittsburgh still made the playoffs even after Pickett got injured, and Wilson would give the team an experienced option in case Pickett doesn’t take the next step.
