One of ESPN's most accomplished college football reporters is bidding the network farewell.
Longtime sportswriter Gene Wojciechowski has exited ESPN, he announced in a tweet Monday afternoon. The move comes amid a round of layoffs that impacted ESPN’s personnel in front of and behind the camera.
"June 30 was my last day at ESPN," Wojciechowski wrote. "I'm indebted to every editor, producer, director, crew member, researcher, and colleague during that 25 1/2-year run. Grateful to all those who let us parachute into their lives and trust us with their stories. No Plan B yet. For now, just thanks."
Wojciechowski, a senior writer at ESPN since 1998, was well-known for his richly narrated features on College GameDay.

A native of Kansas and a Tennessee graduate, Wojciechowski spent time with The Denver Post, The Dallas Morning News, the Los Angeles Times and the Chicago Tribune before and during his ESPN tenure. He has written books with several sports figures, including Hall of Fame running back Jerome Bettis, radio host Paul Finebaum, Hall of Fame center Bill Walton, longtime Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops and others.
ESPN has laid off a spate of big names in the last week as part of massive cuts across Disney, which are designed to eliminate 7,000 jobs.
