Ceredigion local elections 2022: Live updating ward results as the votes are counted

Plaid Cymru has taken full control of Ceredigion council. Plaid Cymru won 20 seats, the same number as in 2017, while the independents dropped a seat to leave them with 10 after the vote had been counted.

The Lib Dems picked up one more seat than in 2017 to finish with seven while Labour ended up gaining just one seat. With 38 seats up for grabs, Plaid Cymru now has a majority, leaving the party-elected Bryan Davies to lead after Ellen ap Gwynn stepped down at the 2022 local government elections.

The result in 2017

Plaid Cymru remained the largest party after the election in 2017 but had no overall majority with 19 councillors. However, an election a few days later took them to a total of 20 but still meaning independent support was needed to run the council. Plaid support was down 3.1% in 2017. Eight seats, out of the 42 available, had candidates elected unopposed in 2017, in 2022 that figure was five. Ellen ap Gwynn, the leader since 2012, has not sought re-election.
