It seems 2008 Boston Celtics champion shooting guard Ray Allen REALLY did not want to miss Hall of Fame Boston big man Kevin Garnett’s jersey retirement ceremony and a chance at reconciliation with his former teammate after a falling out and long feud.
The Miami Herald’s Jay Weaver reports that Allen, a resident of Florida, skipped out on his civic duty, jury duty, and elected to pay a fine instead so he would not miss the big day for KG. It seems he wanted to stick around for a while and the judge in question had even adjusted the date of the trial to two days after the March 13 ceremony to accommodate the former University of Connecticut player’s attendance.
U.S. District Judge Marcia Cooke ordered Allen to pay a $1,000 fine to the charity of his choosing as recompense, stating “no man or woman is above performing that civic duty.”

The lawyer for the former Boston star apologized on Allen’s behalf, calling the incident “a complete misunderstanding.” Oddly enough, teammate Glen “Big Baby” Davis also ended up running afoul of the law to attend.
