The Boston Celtics are on their way to the NBA Finals and Al Horford is already cashing in for next season. In a rare team-based salary incentive, Horford is making $5 million for the team making the Finals. That $5 million goes towards next season’s salary.
Horford has rejuvenated his career here in Boston, being a valuable piece to the team’s success. It would be hard to believe though that the Celtics wouldn’t guarantee his whole contract for next season anyway. His salary could exceed $26 million if the contract is picked up in full.
Plenty of NBA contract incentives are tied to individual accomplishments, however, Horford negotiated one here tied purely to team success. By making the NBA Finals, Horford has his 2022-23 salary guarantee jump from $14.5 million to $19.5 million.
Horford will get the full $26.5 million in his contract guaranteed if the Celtics win the NBA Finals.
The final piece to this though is if Horford wins the championship this year. His salary will be guaranteed fully for next season. Needless to say, this is well deserved, and it makes sense for him to return to the team after such a successful run. The rest of the contract will be decided on the court
