Celtic 'want' Newcastle United goalkeeper Martin Dubravka

Celtic are keen to make a move for Newcastle United goalkeeper Martin Dubravka, according to a report.

Brendan Rodgers is eying up the experienced Premier League stopper amid his search for a new No.1 at Celtic Park.

The Scottish Premiership champions are currently without a first choice heading into pre-season training later this month following Joe Hart's retirement from the game.

Numerous keepers have since been linked with a move to the Hoops from both the UK and further afield.

Now, the Daily Record states that Rodgers believes Dubravka can do a similar job in Glasgow to the one performed by Hart.

The 35-year-old was a regular pick under Eddie Howe during the second half of last season, however, this was due to an injury sustained by Nick Pope.

Newcastle are close to signing Burnley's James Trafford in a £15m deal, which should see Dubravka moved on.

The report also states the Slovenian is confident he still has another two years left at a high level.

It's believed Celtic will face competition for the former Sparta Prague goalie, with two Saudi Pro League clubs interested in him too.

Meanwhile, John Carver has hailed the former Celtic kid who slotted in to Andy Robertson’s left back role after the Scotland captain sustained a minor knock in a Euro 2024 training session in Garmisch-Partenkirchen yesterday morning.

Robertson hobbled off to receive medical attention from the national team’s physios after, much to the concern of the Tartan Army footsoldiers who had turned up to watch, suffering  a knock at the Stadion am Groben.

The Liverpool defender’s departure left a hole to be filled during the practice match which Steve Clarke’s charges played and the kit room assistant Aidan McIlduff had to be drafted in at short notice.
