Celtic vs Rangers LIVE: Old Firm derby result, latest updates and reaction after second half turnaround

Old Firm derby LIVE: Celtic vs Rangers - (Getty Images)

Celtic vs Rangers LIVE

Rangers breathed new life into their Scottish Premiership title bid with a 3-1 win over Celtic in the Old Firm derby on Saturday. Trailing 1-0 at the break, a quick-fire brace from Youssef Chermiti turned the game on its head before on-loan Tottenham forward Mikey Moore added a third to move Rangers level on points with their bitter rivals and three behind leaders Hearts.

As for Celtic, the pressure increases on manager Wilfried Nancy following a second half collapse at Parkhead. It is now six defeats in his first eight matches in charge and Nancy can expect to field more questions about his future, with Celtic supporters also directing their anger towards the board.

A breathless first half brought about a stunning goal to break the deadlock as Yang Hyun-Jun picked up the ball roughly 35 yards out and weaved his way into the box before smashing an effort into the top corner. The goal was no more than Celtic deserved. The only surprise was that they did not extend their lead further before the interval and they were made to pay the ultimate price for those missed chances in the second half. Eight wins, two draws and one defeat have taken them to within three points of Celtic and six behind leaders Hearts.

Nancy's plea before first Old Firm test

10:55 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Celtic manager Wilfried Nancy has lost five of his first seven matches in charge after taking over from interim boss Martin O'Neill at the start of December.

Tuesday's 2-0 defeat at Motherwell piled further pressure on Nancy, but he has stressed he will need to be given time to succeed at the club.

Speaking during a during a remarkable media conference on Friday, he said: "As you know, I need time. Give me time and you're going to see what I do. You can already see what I did before because I didn't start yesterday.

"I'm going to be a liar if I say, 'everything is happy, everything is good'. No, it's not the case, but I knew that before.

"That's why I'm calm during all the questions you ask me. I'm not pleased to hear people don't like me, but they have the right to say it because in terms of results, this is not what we want.

"Tomorrow is a big game. But the context is that I've only had 13 training sessions with my team. Usually we have four weeks of pre-season.

"It's totally normal that you guys kill me. I'm fine with that because I know where I want to go. Judge me in a few weeks or months. If you want to judge me now, you can do it. I didn't have the results we wanted - it's a fact, I cannot deny that."

Last time out

Callum McGregor and substitute Callum Osmand scored in extra time as Celtic emerged victors in an epic Premier Sports Cup semi-final against 10-man Rangers at Hampden Park.

With former Hoops boss Martin O'Neill back in the dugout as interim manager after taking over from Brendan Rodgers, Celtic took the lead through Johnny Kenny after 25 minutes and then Gers midfielder Thelo Aasgaard was shown a straight red card by referee Nick Walsh for a reckless challenge on Anthony Ralston.

The Ibrox side, with new head coach Danny Rohl taking charge of his first Old Firm game, fought back in the second half with captain James Tavernier levelling from the spot in the 81st minute to take the game to extra time.

However, McGregor thundered in a goal three minutes after the restart, before teenager Osmand scored his first Celtic goal 15 minutes later for a 3-1 win.

Celtic wins: 171

Rangers wins: 171

Draws: 106

Score prediction

10:20 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Wilfried Nancy and Celtic are badly in need of a win on derby day to calm the growing unrest among supporters who have become so disillusioned with the club’s recent direction.

Though the Frenchman insists he is not worried about his future and appears to retain the backing from above, six defeats so early in his tenure for a club as traditionally dominant as Celtic feels unthinkable and would surely approach untenable status, particularly with Hearts at home to lowly Livingston later in the day.

Rangers, with the Russell Martin era now firmly in the past, would love to pile on more misery after making solid progress under Danny Rohl. They will be eager to take the chance to move level on points with Celtic - who have yet to keep a single clean sheet under Nancy in seven games - and move firmly into the title picture.

Draw, 2-2.

Rangers team news

10:15 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Nedim Bajrami, Oliver Antman, Derek Cornelius and Rabbi Matondo have all been out for Rangers of late, though the latter was an unused substitute against St Mirren at Ibrox. Nasser Djiga is away at AFCON.

Celtic remain without the services of Sebastian Tounekti and Michel-Ange Balikwisha, both of whom remain involved at the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

Alistair Johnston, Kelechi Iheanacho, Callum Osmand and Marcelo Saracchi have all been sidelined through injury, along with long-term absentees Cameron Carter-Vickers and Jota.

Jahmai Simpson-Pusey is expected to be recalled from his loan spell by parent club Manchester City, meanwhile.
