Saturday’s latest Old Firm derby certainly did not disappoint after a five-goal thriller in the Glasgow spring sunshine. Kyogo Furuhashi and Alfredo Morelos both saw early goals ruled out at Celtic Park, where Rangers fans were absent, before the former struck again emphatically to break the deadlock. James Tavernier equalised with a stunning free-kick on the stroke of half-time.
Kyogo helped himself to another Old Firm brace after the interval to restore the Celtic lead after poor defending from Ben Davies, with Jota then latching onto an errant back-pass from John Souttar to seemingly put the game beyond Rangers. However, Gers captain Tavernier would then set up a grandstand finish by heading home his 100th goal for the club at the back post.
Rangers pressed hard for a last-gasp equaliser, but could not prevent a 16th straight Celtic win that all but seals them the Scottish Premiership title as they open up a 12-point lead with only seven matches to play. They also beat their fiercest rivals in the League Cup final last month, with both sides returning to Hampden Park for a Scottish Cup semi-final showdown on April 30.
