Celtic failed to get revenge over Rangers as they lost 1-0 in the first Old Firm clash of the Scottish Premiership season, for a second defeat at the hands of their bitter rivals in a week
The Gers powered to an impressive 3-0 victory in the League Cup quarter-finals at Ibrox last weekend, and followed that up with another dominant display, although the scoreline was closer this time around.
Ryan Naderi slammed home a rebound on 33 minutes for the decisive goal and completed a week that has surely given Derek McInnes lift-off after a difficult start to life in Glasgow.
Away fans are banned from matches between the Old Firm teams in the Premiership and League Cup this season, so Celtic Park was exclusively green and white but that didn’t help Martin O’Neill’s side, who also endured a deflating defeat to Ferencvaros in the Europa League in midweek and have now lost three on the spin with the clouds of crisis beginning to gather over Parkhead.

Rangers racked up a second win over Celtic in eight days as boos rung around an all-green Parkhead following a 1-0 defeat by the Light Blues.
Celtic’s 74-year-old boss Martin O’Neill went into the game under the spotlight after two successive losses, including a bruising 3-0 Scottish League Cup loss to Gers at Ibrox last Sunday.
To silence inside a stadium populated with home fans only, Gers striker Ryan Naderi opened the scoring in the 33rd minute and it was enough for another huge victory for Derek McInnes’s men who will feel they should have added to that goal after the break.
It was a first Scottish Premiership defeat of the season for the home side, who are just two points ahead of their Old Firm rivals at the top of the table going into the international break with more pressure on O’Neill.

Rangers goalkeeper Ivor Pandur got his first taste of Old Firm action last weekend, having signed from Hull City in the summer, and he is eager to repeat the 3-0 triumph.
“We are confident. I think we did a really good job last Sunday and we just want to repeat that,” said Pandur.
“Obviously we had a week to prepare to see what we can improve on, do better. But the performance was good and we want to do the same.

Scotland and Celtic great Danny McGrain diagnosed with Alzheimer’s

Some sad news emerged earlier this week, with former Celtic and Scotland captain Danny McGrain announcing that he has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease.
His family chose to disclose the diagnosis publicly “so that Danny can continue to receive the love and support of the Celtic Family, just as he has given so freely and humbly to others throughout his life”.
In a statement released by the club, his wife Laraine said: "Danny received this diagnosis some time ago, and as time has moved on, we felt it was right to be open and clear.
"Danny has always loved helping supporters – whether through hospital visits, assisting fans with charity events, or sending messages of support.
"As time has gone on, that has become more difficult for Danny, so we wanted to explain his situation with honesty, and with the care and respect the Celtic Family has always shown us."

Celtic and Rangers fans have been banned from attending away matches between the Old Firm clubs in the Scottish Premiership and Scottish League Cup this season, which includes this afternoon’s Premiership clash at Parkhead.
The “temporary arrangement” follows the disruption at the Scottish Cup quarter-final between the teams at Ibrox last season, which has led to behind-closed-doors punishments for both clubs in their next home fixture in that competition.
An independent review into the Scottish Cup match at Ibrox found that that “crushing” and “life-threatening violence” were narrowly avoided after Rangers fans stormed the pitch to confront Celtic supporters who had spilled onto the field in celebration.
