Celtic transfer target Yang Hyun-jun publicly called out by own captain

Yang Hyun-jun has been warned by his own captain he needs to up his game and leave on a high if he is to clinch a move to Celtic.

The South Korean star played for Gangwon on Friday night in a 1-1 draw against Gwangwu which did nothing to ease their relegation worries.

His protracted move to Celtic appeared to move a step closer this week with his club bringing in Brazilian striker Vitor Gabriel from Flamengo.

However, Gangwon skipper Han Kook-young revealed he had a pep talk with Yang before their game and urged him to get his head together despite the on-off transfer saga.

Han said: "There's been a lot of noise about Yang both on and off the pitch. So I had a chat with Yang separately.

"I told him that even if he leaves, there is a difference between leaving with a good impression with the team and leaving with a bad image of him.

"I don't think it's up to me to decide if he's going to transfer or not. And if he does, I think the other players will make up for him leaving.

"I think it's more important for the current Gangwon players to play with more desire."

The 21-year-old last scored for his club in April and has made it clear he's desperate to join up with Brendan Rodgers' side as soon as possible.

But Gangwon, who sit second bottom of the K-League after only two wins all season want him to stay until the end of their season in October, which would mean he wouldn't be able to move to Celtic until January.
