Celtic transfer target directly responds to potential Scottish champions move

Rumoured Celtic transfer target Asmir Begovic has addressed speculation around a possible move to Glasgow's east end directly.

The 36-year-old Bosnian goalkeeper is approaching the end of his one-year deal at English Championship side Queens Park Rangers, and was asked about his next moves on talkSport.

When asked specifically about staying put south of the border, or indeed moving north, by host Andy Goldstein, Begovic kept his cards close to his chest.

He said: "I am currently looking at options, talking to QPR, [seeing] what happens there, see what happens in the next few weeks, it is still pretty early in the transfer window.

"Nothing has been decided yet. I am keeping myself fit. I really enjoyed last year, the fact that I played so many games.

"In the second half of the season, for us, the team [came] together really well. Let’s see if we can keep this group of players together, have another run at it next year, see what else is out there and take it from there."

Host Goldstein continued to press the 36-year-old about whether his future lies in England or Scotland.

"I am not going to answer all those questions," said Begovic. "Let’s see what happens. I will listen to different people and obviously see how the market shapes up and take it from there and decide what’s best for me and my family."

The Celtic Way's Tony Haggerty feels strongly about filling the gap between the sticks at Paradise, writing previously about why Celtic need to recruit Joe Hart's replacement quickly.

Whether or not Begovic becomes that replacement for Brendan Rodgers remains to be seen, but when pressed further still by Goldstein, the goalkeeper remained firm.

"Just cough if it is down south," joked Goldstein – to which Begovic replied: "I will smile instead."
