It would be fair to admit Ange Postecoglou's first transfer window as Celtic boss has proven the exception rather than the rule.
And that was to be expected but the way the 57-year-old expertly crafted his squad amid a mammoth overhaul proved inspired. It led to the likes of Odsonne Edouard, Kristoffer Ajer and Ryan Christie exiting – while identifying the likes of Kyogo, Jota, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Joe Hart to breathe new life into a team who had lost the title to Rangers by 25 points.
But the Postecoglou plan in the three windows which have followed has been forged in a forward-thinking approach. And the January window has proven a time for both forward planning and bolstering the first-team squad. The arrivals of Daizen Maeda and Reo Hatate were pivotal 12 months ago and supporters will hope Alistair Johnston and Yuki Kobayashi can have a similar galvanising effect.
