Where is Steve Clarke in his Scotland reign?
KEITH JACKSON : At his most vulnerable point. The mob is gathering after Saturday’s horror show in Dublin and Clarke has no excuse for the ineptitude of that performance. He needs to get back to picking his best players because anything less than three points in Armenia could be catastrophic.
CRAIG SWAN : Clarke has taken Scotland forward, no doubt. But there are worrying signs creeping in, also no doubt. He should still have credit in the bank, but it’s drying up.
GORDON PARKS : Three years in, three steps forward and two steps back. Clarke’s managed to get Scotland on an upward trajectory but it’s the failures in the big games which leave the biggest question marks. He’s not in imminent danger but he needs to find a striker who knows how to score a goal.
ANDY NEWPORT : Under-pressure. The punters are rightly furious after that Dublin disaster but he should be given the chance to turn this around. Yes Saturday and the Ukraine result were set-backs but Clarke has made progress and deserves a reprieve.
What changes should he make for Armenia?
KEITH : He needs to get Billy Gilmour back into his midfield as a matter of urgency. And it does feel like time to admit playing three at the back only works when Kieran Tierney is one of them.
CRAIG : Stuart Armstrong and John Souttar were amongst the best on the park against the Armenians at Hampden and should be recalled. Che Adams needs a rest. Go with Jacob Brown as playing Ross Stewart would only tempt boys to hit long balls at him and it was movement that did for the Armenians in Glasgow.
GORDON : Greg Taylor, Lewis Ferguson, Jason Brown and Ross Stewart would add a freshness which Scotland badly need against a side which should be dealt with despite the boiling heat. 4-4-2 and back to basics and Stuart Armstrong should also start.
ANDY : Ditch the back three and move to a back four. We’ve sorely lacked width the last few games. Our wingers seem to have disappeared off the face of the planet so I’d try Ryan Christie and David Turnbull either side of Ross Stewart up top in Yerevan.
Do Celtic need to find a partner for Cameron Carter-Vickers?
KEITH : Carl Starfelt came onto a game in the second half of last season and deserves to stay in the team. But there’s a mistake in the big Swede all the same and he could benefit from being challenged for his position.
CRAIG : Ange Postecoglou needs another centre-half. Nir Bitton has gone and Christopher Jullien didn’t get a shot at it. Once he’s signed, it’ll be up to the individual to oust the Swede.
GORDON : The need for a bit of height in the Celtic defence was an issue all last season and it’s something which must be on their recruitment list.
ANDY : Starfelt has certainly improved since his early Parkhead days but there’s no doubt he’s still capable of the odd lapse in concentration. Finding someone with the full package won’t come cheap and that may mean they have to stick with the Swede having splashed out £6m on CCV, with a similar amount needed to nail down Jota too.
Should Allan McGregor quit Rangers if he's not going to be number one?
KEITH : That’s entirely a matter for McGregor. If he’s content to play second fiddle then why not? But the chances are he’l still be first choice if he does decide to sign a new deal.
CRAIG : No-one has the right to be No.1. McGregor would surely only stay if he can fight to stay as top pick and, given his ability, you wouldn’t bet against him.
GORDON : No. A coaching role and the challenge of continuing as number one is more than enough for a keeper who can still be a key player for the club in the campaign ahead.
ANDY : Only if regular action is still his main priority. Otherwise he’d be as well staying at a club where he has achieved legendary status.
