Celtic look to be running the rule over another Australian transfer target with wonderkid Liam Bonetig reported to have featured for the B-team in a friendly with Fraserburgh - and even hit the back of the net.
The Parkhead club are looking to build on their growing status down under even after the departure of Ange Postecoglou. Aaron Mooy may have hung up his boots but plenty of Aussie eyes will be trained to Glasgow's East End after A-League superstar Marco Tilio made the move to the Scottish Premiership to work with Brendan Rodgers.
Celtic fans are yet to get an up-close look at how the first-team is shaping up with their first advertised friendly not until they face Yokohama F. Marinos to kick off their Asian tour next week. The B-team though played out a fundraising friendly with Fraserburgh on Saturday, drawing 0-0 before winning 5-3 on penalties in the Highlands.
According to Aussie Scout on Twitter, fans committed enough to make it along to that game would have seen an unfamiliar face in the back-line - 17-year-old centre-back Liam Bonetig. It's claimed he was given a runout after training with the club in recent weeks as he looks to earn a move from Western Sydney Wanderers. And he even stepped up to score a penalty in the shootout.
It's claimed Bonetig is one of the most highly-rated Aussies of his age group, regularly running out for the Western Sydney reserve side despite his age. And he'll be hoping to catch the eye and earn a permanent switch to Scotland.
Elsewhere target Yang Hyun-jun continues to push for a move to Glasgow but it seems the club aren't giving in just yet as he was named in the starting XI for their 0-0 draw with Daegu on Tuesday afternoon. He appeared to start on the left of a front three and was substituted early in the second half of the bore draw.
Yang has made no bones about the fact he wants a move to Celtic and while the club were initially adamant not to let him go mid season, they are thought to have softened their stance and willing to talk. But for now it's business as usual as they continue their battle against relegation with Yang at the helm.
