Celtic transfer news as Ange Postecoglou admits latest deal is 'getting close'

Ange Postecoglou says a deal is 'getting close' for latest transfer target Sead Haksabanovic as he admitted: "We can't stand still."

The Celtic boss arrived 12 months ago and started a major Parkhead rebuild that has brought the likes of Kyogo Furuhashi, Joe Hart, Josip Juranovic, Matt O'Riley, Cameron Carter-Vickers, Jota and many more to the club over the past year. After a hugely successful first campaign that ended with winning the title back from Rangers and putting the Premier Sports Cup in the trophy cabinet, the Aussie boss is out for even more.

It's been another busy summer at the Hoops and Postecoglou has revealed Macedonian star Haksabanovic is nearing a switch to Celtic as he continues to strengthen their pool with domestic and Champions League football on the agenda this season. Asked on Sky Sports if a deal was close, he said: "Yeah I think that's a fair assessment - it's getting close."

He continued: “Yeah, we can’t stand still. We’re still building. Every now and then I’ll glance at the diary and, if you go back 12 months, you’re going to have a very different picture of what our football club looked like.

“We’ve made a hell of a lot of progress, but we’re still at the beginning. I’m still building a team, building a game style, building an environment. There’s still work to be done.

“Just because you have had success or it looks like things are going well, that’s not the time to stand still. I still know there’s a lot of work to be done. My ambitions for this football club are very strong in terms of making sure we are the best we can be.

“So, we’ll continue to strengthen with the guys we’ve got, but if opportunities come along to bring people in who I think will help us on that journey, then I’ll bring them in.

“I’ve had full support from day one. We wouldn’t have been able to do the work we’ve done in the last 12 months. It’s very easy to forget, but 12 months in the world of football is not a hell of a long time to do what we’ve done I think.

“We’ve pretty much restructured a whole playing list, the way we play our football. That hasn’t been just me, the whole club has embraced that we needed to do it and I’ve had support all along. They continue to support me, and as a manager, that’s what you need. I’m going to take responsibility for it, so I think that’s important for what you want to achieve.”
