Celtic transfer leaves Aberdeen fans unhappy as Dons supporters take extra steps to protest business

A small band of Aberdeen fans have gone to the lengths of creating a banner to show how unhappy they are at trading with Celtic.

The Premiership champions have recent history of sending players north for regular minutes and experience. Ryan Christie is the most successful loan benefactor of recent years while Celtic left-back Adam Montgomery spent some time at Pittodrie last season. Jonny Hayes and Gary Mackay-Steven have also made the transfer in recent seasons.

Liam Scales is the latest, joining Jim Goodwin's men for the upcoming league season and he has impressed in his initial outings in red. That isn't enough for some Aberdeen fans though, who have demanded - via a banner - that their club stops taking loans off Celtic. The banner displayed before the Dons' emphatic 5-0 victory over Stirling Albion in Premier Sports Cup group stage action simply read: "We are Aberdeen, no more Celtic loan players."

Scales shone during the match, setting up the second goal as the Pittodrie outfit start to look towards the last 16 and Premiership action beginning.

The Irishman won't be able to feature in their league opener though due to his loan agreement as Celtic host Aberdeen during their title day celebrations at Parkhead on July 31st.

Goodwin said of Scales upon his arrival: “Liam is 23-years-old and has already amassed nearly 200 appearances in senior football. He’s a strong character with a winning mentality, who will no doubt be a great addition to the squad."
