Celtic transfer latest as Ko Itakura braced for offer and Gustavo Hamer option back ON

Ko Itakura is braced for an offer from Bundesliga side Hoffenheim as he considers his options this summer.

The Japanese defender has been given the green light to leave Manchester City after a successful loan at Schalke.

It seemed he wanted to stay at the Bundesliga 2 champions but they baulked at City's £4.3m asking price.

Celtic are one of the clubs who have been linked with a move after they showed interest last summer.

But he has plenty of options in Germany too and Kicker report Hoffenheim are weighing up a move.

Itakura is out of contract at City in 2023 and they're keen to sell for a reasonable price after the 25-year-old impressed last season.

He'd strengthen the centre of Celtic's back line, where they are looking light on options at present with Cameron Carter-Vickers ' return yet to be secured.

The Hoops are also focused on replacing Tom Rogic with a new midfielder seemingly high on the agenda.

Various names have been linked, with Brazilian Vinicius Souza the latest to emerge alongside Frenchman Kevin N'Doram.

But one option who may be back on the table is Coventry City standout Gustavo Hamer.

Back in January, he was linked with a pre-contract move to both Celtic and rivals Rangers - although he's since put pen to paper on a long-term extension.

That hasn't killed it off completely though and Coventry Live say one of their 'big three' could be sold if a significant offer arrives - meaning Hamer, Victor Gyokeres and Callum O'Hare.

24-year-old Hamer was one of their star turns in an impressive Championship season with ten assists in all competitions.

And it's claimed he's valued at £10m now, with various teams from the English Premier League keen.

He'd likely command a club record fee if Celtic were to swoop but as a hard-working midfielder with a creative edge, he fits the profile Postecoglou is looking for.

But he'd represent a statement signing if the Hoops were to move decisively and fend off the likes of Leeds United and Brighton.

And with significant Champions League cash now in the bank, the timing could be right for Celtic to smash their ceiling and land Hamer, who is one for the present and the future.
