Celtic transfer latest as Hoops 'closing in' on highly-rated starlet with major EPL competition

Celtic are closing in on a deal for highly-rated goalkeeper Josh Clarke, according to a report.

Ange Postecoglou is keen to land the former Bournemouth and Chelsea stopper with interest in the 18-year-old from a number of major English Premier League clubs.

The Daily Record claims the Northern Ireland international - who is a free agent after a short-term stint at Glenavon to help ease a goalkeeping crisis - has been on the radar of the Scottish champions for some time. The goalie has been tipped for big things in the game and has been part of senior national team set-up under Ian Baraclough. Clarke came through the ranks at Chelsea before he moved to EPL new boys Bournemouth. He left the Cherries earlier this year before helping Glenavon out in April.

Clarke has plenty of international experience having represented England, Sweden, and the Republic of Ireland at youth level before his first senior call-up to the Northern Ireland squad.

It's reported that if Celtic can strike a deal, the youngster is likely to go into the B squad to begin with and compete with Tobi Oluwayemi and Joe Morrison for the No1 spot in the Lowland League.

Postecoglou has Joe Hart as his established No1 with former Dundee United keeper Benjamin Siegrist joining this summer to provide competition to the former England international. Scott Bain is also on the senior books. Vasilis Barkas was allowed to depart the club on loan to the Netherlands for the season earlier this summer.

Celtic return to action this weekend as they make the trip to newly promoted Kilmarnock.

The Hoops have won their two opening games of the season with wins over Aberdeen and Ross County.
