Celtic summer signing earns shock first call-up to senior national team

Celtic midfielder Mika Baur has been called up to the German senior team for the first time.

The 22-year-old, who joined Martin O'Neill's side from Paderborn this summer, has been recognised by new manager Jurgen Klopp for his early efforts.

Due to the extended international break, which is due to commence next week, Germany have named two separate squads for their upcoming matches.

For their games against the Netherlands and Greece next week, Baur will not be involved, though he will be for their final two games against Serbia and their rematch against Greece, which take place on October 1 and 4, respectively.

The likes of David Raum, Nick Woltemade and Florian Wirtz have all been named alongside the ex-Freigburg youth prospect, as Klopp has mixed emerging talent with established names in both squads.

Since arriving at Celtic in August, Baur has made eight appearances in all competitions. He scored his first goal for the club in last week's 1-0 win over St Johnstone at McDiarmid Park.
