Celtic striker sold in the summer continues prolific goalscoring form

A player who Celtic recently sold seems to have found the goalscoring trail.

Hyeon-Gyu Oh moved on from the Scottish champions over the summer after a year-and-a-half at the club.

The 23-year-old joined KRC Genk for £4.5million in July.

When the forward penned a five-year contract at Celtic following his acquisition from South Korean side Samsung Bluewings, then manager Ange Postecoglou hailed the player as "the striker I really wanted."

However, the form of Kyogo Furuhashi coupled with a change of boss shortly after pitching up in Glasgow didn't help him live up to that billing. Latterly, Adam Idah's arrival left Oh even further down the pecking order.

He made 47 appearances in total, scoring 12 goals. Most of those were cameos off the bench though.

There is no doubt Oh's confidence had taken a blow considering he was resigned to the watching from the sidelines during his final few months under Brendan Rodgers

But his journey since departing Celtic has been something of a redemption.

He bagged a goal for South Korea against Jordan on Thursday night, helping his country go top of their World Cup qualifying group.

That took his tally to four strikes and an assist from his last five games in all competitions.

What's even more impressive is his conversion rate has improved significantly - considering most of his minutes have still come as a substitute.

Rodgers may have been correct to let Oh move on but very few Celtic supporters wouldn't take pleasure in seeing his career flourish away from Scottish football.
