Celtic star Carter-Vickers savaged in 'whatever the lowest grade is' USA verdict

Cameron Carter-Vickers received a scathing review for his cameo display in the USA's defeat to Panama in the Copa America.

The Celtic defender stepped off the bench in the second half in the disappointing group-stage loss.

Former Celtic loan player Timo Weah was sent off after just 18 minutes as the USMNT stumbled in their second outing in the competition after victory over Bolivia in their tournament opener.

Weah was dismissed after an off-the-ball incident as he appeared to lash out at Roderick Miller, catching the Panama defender on the head with an outstretched arm.

Despite the numbers disparity, the USA did go ahead through a Folarin Balogun finish after 22 minutes.

The lead would only last four minutes though with Cesar Blackman levelling for Panama.

With the scores locked at 1-1, Carter-Vickers replaced Giovanni Reyna and goalkeeper Matthew Turner was subbed off for Ethan Horvath at the break.

But Carter-Vickers - who has earned major plaudits for his performances for Celtic - did not enjoy a positive first appearance at the 2024 Copa America.

Having been left on the bench against Bolivia, Carter-Vickers was handed the opportunity to stake a claim against Panama but instead, he has come in for heavy criticism over his display.

On Golazo America, former goalkeeper Tony Meola blasted Carter-Vickers in his match ratings as he offered the Celtic defender the "lowest grade" for his outing.

Meola stated: "The backline, Antonee Robinson is the only one I give a grade to in this match to be honest.

"Cameron Carter-Vickers, whatever the lowest grade is that we wanna give a player.

"He was poor in the game, almost cost the US before."
