Celtic staff member 'required stitches to head wound' after glass bottle thrown in Ibrox

A member of Celtic 's backroom staff needed stitches for a head injury after being hit by a glass bottle at Ibrox Stadium, the club has said.

Police have now launched a probe into the incident which left the man needing "urgent" medical treatment at the Old Firm clash on Sunday afternoon.

The staff member hit by the bottle is thought to be a club physio.

Another glass bottle was also thrown onto the pitch in a separate incident at this afternoon's match.

The start of the second half was delayed at Ibrox after the missile was launched toward the goalmouth of Celtic's Joe Hart.

Police Scotland have also confirmed they are looking into the circumstances of that incident.

A Celtic spokesperson said: "We can confirm that a member of our backroom staff was struck by a glass bottle.

"He required urgent medical treatment and stitches to a head wound. The matter is now in the hands of Police Scotland."

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "We are aware of a glass bottle being thrown at Ibrox Stadium, Glasgow during the Rangers v Celtic match on Sunday, 3 April, 2022.

“One man has sustained injuries as a result of this and required treatment.

"Enquiries are currently ongoing to establish the full circumstances."
