Celtic player ratings vs St Mirren as dismal Hoops performance leaves them stunned in Paisley

Celtic's 100 per cent record in the Scottish Premiership came to an end after a dismal 2-0 loss at St Mirren.

The Hoops named a changed team for the trip west of Glasgow with much of their starting XI from the game against Shakhtar Donetsk, with Aaron Mooy, Stephen Welsh, Anthony Ralston and David Turnbull coming into Ange Postecoglou's side. With six wins from six so far in the season, you'd have been forgiven for thinking they would make it seven from seven.

But goals from Mark O'Hara and Jonah Ayunga changed the script, with Stephen Robinson's men picking up a very unlikely win against the reigning champions on their home turf. Celtic's win over Rangers last time out has now paled almost insignificant with their lead in the league being cut to just two points again. Here is how we rated Celtic's players after an underwhelming day away from Parkhead.

Joe Hart - 6

Unlike like the majority of his Celtic career, Hart was tested massively between the sticks in Paisley. He was largely quiet and could have done better with the opener, but that being said, the defence didn't help him out much.

Anthony Ralston - 6

Ralston is undoubtedly a solid right-back, but perhaps lacked the conviction in the final third to help the Hoops contribution to their win. Josip Juranovic would have been a better option, albeit rotation was needed after midweek's trip to Poland.

Moritz Jenz - 6

His poor header led to O'Hara's goal, and rushing out of position upset the formation of the back line which gave the former Motherwell midfielder space to open the scoring. However, the German was strong and composed otherwise.

Stephen Welsh - 5

Welsh's introduction highlighted the absence of Cameron Carter-Vickers, and some. The academy product lacked the domineering presence that Carter-Vickers shows, and the leadership void was clearly lacking as Welsh was poor for both Buddies goals.

Greg Taylor - 5

Tired performance. Could have done better to prevent St Mirren's opener by stopping the cross, and failed to deliver in the final third despite strong showings in recent weeks. Alexandro Bernabei could be preferred in games such as this one going forward in order to keep Taylor fresh throughout the season...

Callum McGregor - 5

McGregor huffed and puffed but he could not knock the St Mirren midfield down. The captain has played in all but 14 minutes of Celtic's campaign so far this season, and jadedness did him no favours at all.

David Turnbull - 5

Turnbull was picked as Celtic's focal point in midfield, with his technique in the final third usually proving to be crucial to Ange Postecoglou's plans. But the Wishaw-born talent failed to make an impression despite his importance by failing to create any clear-cut chances. Hooked on the hour mark.

Aaron Mooy - 6

The Australian looks to take over Tom Rogic's label as the new 'Wizard of Oz' at Celtic Park, although his full debut and return to St Mirren Park failed to flatter. Tidy on the ball, but Mooy lacked any creativity in the final third before being hooked at half-time. Could have tracked O'Hara for the opener.

Liel Abada - 6

Didn't do much in the first half, and was unfortunate not to level the scores on the stroke of half-time with an audacious attempt at a bicycle kick. Seemed to be arguably the most dangerous of Celtic's front three, but with Kyogo and Maeda fading, that wasn't difficult.

Daizen Maeda - 5

The Japanese star is never short of intensity, work-rate and more but he failed to trouble St Mirren at all. No contribution in the final third saw Jota come on in his place.

Kyogo Furuhashi - 5

Never before has Furuhashi been so ineffective in a Celtic shirt. The poacher was miles off the pace in Paisley, and failed to offer any outlet as Celtic mustered just four shots on target.

Jota - 5

Usually the main outlet for Celtic, Jota was benched - although with the side toiling, he was introduced at half-time. But again, a low block from Robinson's side saw him fail to make his mark.

Reo Hatate - 6

Offered a freshness in midfield that saw Celtic push on in the second half, but his effort were rewarded with not even a sniff of a meaningful attack.

Sead Haksabanovic - 6

He was energetic, and offered a few inroads when cutting in on his favoured right. But the Montenegrin international was ineffective just like the majority of his teammates as they ran out of ideas.

Giorgos Giakoumakis - 6

Unlucky not to score with a header as the game progressed, the Greek did offer a different and much-needed dynamic for the Hoops.

Matt O'Riley - 5

Was introduced too late to change the game with many likeminded players flooding the Celtic midfield.
