Celtic player ratings as Jota nets in draw against Rangers

Celtic player ratings as Jota nets in draw against Rangers

Joe Hart 7

Didn’t have much to do in the first-half but kept busy in the second. Will be annoyed to have conceded at his near post but excellent stop from Arfield late on. Relieved to see Sakala then hit post.

Greg Taylor 6

What has come to be a standard performance for the full-back; composed and assured. Solid in defence and burst forward plenty in the first-half. Stood up to challenge in second as Rangers dominated.

Cameron Carter-Vickers 6

Strolled it in the first-half with Sakala reduced to little opportunity. But was given a bit of trouble as the pacy striker wrestled with him to good effect in the second. Colossal in previous meetings between sides but not as confident this time.

Carl Starfelt 6

Another who enjoyed coasting through the first-half with little threat to his goal. Tried to continue playing out from the back and drove into midfield a couple of times, limited to major defensive effort in second half.

Anthony Ralston 6

Continued to deputise for Josip Juranovic and coped well enough. Kept Kent fairly tame in first-half but endured a difficult second 45 with Rangers well in the ascendancy, goal came down his flank.

Callum McGregor 6

So often the heartbeat of everything good at Celtic, but wasn’t as involved. Usual full commitment and determination but struggled as Celtic faded into the final stages.

Reo Hatate 5

A very quiet afternoon for the midfielder. Usually so influential on the ball and dictating attacking play, but unable to stamp his play on proceedings. Subbed after an hour.

Matt O’Riley 6

Thrown into the starting line-up ahead of Rogic and enjoyed a decent showing. Decent in the first-half without creating a huge amount. Anonymous in the second before substitution.

Daizen Maeda 7

Ran himself into the ground for his team. Showed his desire as he did as much running going backwards as he did in the final third. Did well to deliver for Jota’s opener.

Kyogo 6

Given the nod instead of Giakoumakis up top. Didn’t do much wrong but not a huge amount of the ball for the attacker, plenty of endeavour but, perhaps uncharacteriscally, little final product.

Jota 7

One of the better performers on the pitch. Full of purpose on the ball and had the beating of Barisic. Made his mark by nipping in front of the full-back to fire home opener in first-half.

Giorgos Giakoumakis (for Kyogo, 61) 4

Given last half-hour, but was ineffective.

Tom Rogic (for Hatate, 61) 4

Few nice touches, but couldn’t force a winner.

Nir Bitton (for O’Riley, 61) 3

Went about his duties quietly.

Liel Aada (for Maeda, 78) 2

Didn’t have enough time or possession to affect game.
