Celtic pay tribute after Neil Lennon's mother passes away

Celtic have expressed its deep condolences following the passing of Neil Lennon's mother, Ursula, as confirmed by the former Hoops manager on Sunday.

The news comes as a profound loss to Lennon and the Celtic community.

Recently appointed manager of Romanian side, Rapid Bucharest, Lennon returned to Scotland on Saturday due to what was described as a "family emergency."

In a statement released by Rapid Bucharest, the club revealed that Ursula had been in a "very serious condition" after several weeks in the hospital.

They then followed that up with a short message from Celtic legend Lennon, which read: "My beautiful mother, Ursula, passed away this morning at 10:51."

After the death was confirmed, Celtic paid tribute on social media by saying: "The heartfelt thoughts and prayers of everyone at Celtic Football Club are with our former captain and manager, Neil Lennon, and his family following the sad passing of Neil's beloved mother, Ursula, earlier today. RIP, Ursula."

Rapid Bucharest have put assistant coach Iain Brunksill in temporary charge while Lennon processes the tragic news. 

The Romanian outfit also said: "Our coach's mother passed away this morning. Condolences to the Lennon family! We are with our coach in these difficult moments."
