Celtic outcast's loan club plan talks over his transfer future

Hannover chiefs have revealed they will hold talks with Celtic on the future of loan defender Maik Nawrocki after they missed out on promotion to the Bundesliga.

The 25-year-old is on his way back to Celtic after his club were held to a 3-3 draw at home by Nurnberg on the last day of the season, which ended their chances of returning to Germany's top flight.

He made 16 starts for Hannover after recovering from injury at the start of the season and was regarded as a key player for the club.

It's unlikely Hannover would be able to afford the £2 million fee to turn his loan move into a permanent one.

But their sports director Ralf Becker has admitted they will talk to both the player and Celtic.

He said: "All of our loan players will return now to their parent clubs.

"We will also hold talks with the loaned players and their clubs, so that staying on may be possible in individual cases.

"Of course, the disappointment is still lingering for all of us. Nevertheless, it was important for us to close the season off and say our farewells to the players for now."

Nawrocki admitted last month he would decide his future at the end of the campaign.

He said: "There are several options for me at the end of the season.

"I could stay here, go back to Celtic or maybe go somewhere completely different.

"This loan move has worked out very well for me.

"It was important that I played regularly again after two years of hardly playing. The way we play is also good for me."
