Neil Lennon doesn't think a single Rangers player would get into the Celtic team - or he's not putting them into his combined XI, at least.
It's a massive week for the Parkhead club as the women's team face Rangers in a decisive SWPL clash on Friday night before the men's sides meet at Hampden on Sunday in the Viaplay Cup final. It's the latter that has Lennon's attention and the former Hoops boss has been in amongst it in the media in the build-up.
Lennon was on talkSPORT with Ally McCoist where he told Chris Sutton he's only Chelsea's SECOND worst ever player in a quipped response to Michael Beale. And when asked by Boylesports to name his combined XI, he admitted he likes some of the Rangers players - but probably wouldn't put any in his combined XI.
He said: "There's no question that I like some of the current Rangers players. Ryan Kent is a handful and Alfredo Morelos is the same. Allan McGregor is a top goalkeeper and has been for a long time and Tavernier's goal contributions record is exemplary so there are players that I do admire - whether I'd pick them in a combined XI is another thing!"
Ange Postecoglou will be hoping to have his third trophy as Celtic boss in the bag by the close of play on Sunday with the first silverware of the season on the line. The Greek-Aussie boss has had plenty of plaudits for the turnaround he's overseen at Parkhead and he's recently been linked with various jobs in the Premier League, including Leeds and Everton.
But pundit Jamie O'Hara reckons he won't be doing a Brendan Rodgers or Steven Gerrard and jumping ship while there is still work to be done this season. While he admits it's inevitable Ange will move on one day, he insists now isn't the time and Postecoglou will be solely focused on decking out his trophy cabinet in Glasgow's east end for the time being.
He told Grosvenor Sport: “I think Postecoglou is a top manager, I love the way Celtic play. Celtic are a very high-intensity, quick passing team, and I think he’s definitely a manager that people will have their eye on, whether that’s in the Premier League or abroad.
“But I think he’s going to want to stay there for now. If he wins the league, they’ve got guaranteed Champions League football next season, so why would you leave Celtic right now? I don’t know if you need to leave there. They are a big football club all over the world, guaranteed Champions League football, and you’re going to be competing for the title.
“Look at Steven Gerrard and Rangers. I know you have to move on eventually, but if it doesn’t work out at your next club, then you’re out of a job. With Celtic, you’re in the job for a long time if you’re a top manager and you’re constantly winning, so, we’ll see what he does.”
