Celtic need no extra motivation for Rangers as Ange Postecoglou sends 'always here' message

Ange Postecoglou insists Celtic need no extra motivation ahead of facing Rangers.

The Hoops suffered rare dropped points last weekend as Motherwell became the first team to take a result off the champions on their own turf this season. Skipper Callum McGregor netted for the hosts from range and it seemed it would be a formality but the Well hit back through talisman Kevin van Veen and held on to secure a big point on the road.

It was a performance and result that left Postecoglou disappointed but he insists the 1-1 draw provides his side with a valuable learning moment in their season. Sunday presents a big opportunity to bounce back in style against Michael Beale's men at Hampden with a place in the Scottish Cup Final up for grabs. The Hoops have already defeated the Light Blues in Mount Florida in the League Cup Final this season and another win would make them heavy favourites to secure a domestic Treble this campaign with Falkirk or Inverness to come.

The Premiership title could be official in the first week of the split fixtures with a potential title party at Tynecastle with Celtic 13 points ahead of Rangers with just five games to go.

Speaking ahead of the Old Firm showdown this weekend, Postecoglou told Celtic TV: "No, we don't need motivation for Sunday, motivation is always here, every game we play we try and be the team we aspire to be.

"Every game gives you an opportunity. There's no greater motivation. We were disappointed with the game on the weekend – both in performance and obviously result.

"But there is a learning moment there for us and we have been pretty good at learning along the way while winning games of football which is not easy. It's easy to just let things roll along, like the weekend, where we obviously didn't do some things as well as we wanted to.

"It's a chance for us to improve that, within the context of understanding that the group has been outstanding for a very long time."
