Leading European football writer Andy Brassell reckons the success of Jota at Celtic makes the Scottish Premiership champions appealing to the cream of the Continent.
The verdict comes after Ange Postecoglou admitted he was an admirer of Paris Saint-Germain's Edouard Michut but a move for the rising star wasn't in the offing. However, Brassell believes Michut and a host of others at PSG are fully aware of the opportunities which can present themselves by moving on from the world's richest team.
And he reckons the recent success of Jota going from Benfica academy starlet to bonafide Celtic star destined for the Champions League is a timely reminder to the next generation. Speaking on the Football Ramble podcast, he said: "You have got Edouard Michut, the midfield player who Pochettino wanted to give chances to, at the end of last season. He got that red card against Angers, so was unable to do that. But you’ve got him saying, 'you know what, I think I will go and play for Celtic, maybe I will go and take the Jota route, because there I can play and inflate my reputation'".
Celtic are gearing up for the new season and have already landed six signing as Postecoglou aims to make a telling impact in the Champions League while retaining their Premiership title.
Alexandro Bernabei plus the permanent signings of Cameron Carter Vickers, Daizen Maeda and Jota has cost them £17.5m in transfer fees plus the additions of free agents Aaron Mooy, Ben Siegrist and loanee Moritz Jenz.
