Celtic are set to table a bumper offer to bring Brendan Rodgers in as manager - and Hoops chiefs want Scott Brown to join him, according to reports.
Rodgers is the frontrunner to replace Ange Postecoglou at Parkhead after the Aussie departed for Tottenham Hotspur last week.
A number of candidates have been sounded out for the role to replace Postecoglou, but four years on from his Celtic departure, Rodgers looks to be the man the Hoops will turn to.
The Sun now report that Dermot Desmond will table a bumper offer to Rodgers to bring him back to Celtic, and club legend Brown has been pinpointed a possible No2.
It remains to be seen whether John Kennedy will depart Celtic and join Postecoglou at Spurs, and that could hinge the decision on whether Celtic approach Fleetwood Town to bring Brown back.
Rodgers held preliminary talks with Hoops chief executive Michael Nicholson over the weekend and the club are now ready to take the next step.
The club have also asserted to Rodgers that a return to Celtic would be popular amongst the Hoops support despite the backlash of his exit to Leicester City four years ago.
Rodgers was weighing up the possibility of taking a break from management after his recent sacking from Leicester, but reports now suggest that he is willing to return to Celtic, where he had a hugely successful spell as manager.
Meanwhile, Celtic should bring Rodgers back “in a heartbeat” if their old manager is keen on a return to Glasgow, according to former Hoops full-back Mark Wilson.
“If Celtic have got the option to bring him back, I would in a heartbeat, I really would,” Wilson said.
“Brendan Rodgers is a top-tier manager, his history shows that. You don’t get the Liverpool job if you’re not a top-tier manager, you don’t get the success in Glasgow he had if you’re not a top-class manager.
“He had a style of football here that the supporters and players bought into, possession-based. It was terrific to watch and it yielded trophies, year after year.
“Of course the baggage he has with some Celtic fans, the way he left, would be hard to dissolve. But football is a results-driven business and if he came back and started well, and there were a few good signings in the door, I think a lot of that bad feeling would quickly evaporate.”
