Celtic legend Scott Brown in wholesome moment as he meets Fleetwood Town superfan

Scott Brown put a huge smile on the face of a Fleetwood Town fan as the Celtic hero spent some one to one time with the superfan ahead of the clash with Manchester United Under-21s.

The Cod Army were in Papa John's Trophy action last night as they suffered a late heartbreak with the Old Trafford youngsters snatching a late share of the spoils after Brown's troops had turned the game around in a four minute period. Charlie McNeill handed the visitors a first half lead from the spot before Carlos Mendes Gomes and ex- Rangers man Joe Garner put the hosts ahead. However, Shola Shoretire netted in the 92nd minute to snatch a draw.

The Hoops hero and his side won on penalties but exited the competition. Pre-match ahead of preparations Brown took time out to meet diehard supporter James in a moment he will never forget. After a quick hug and hello, Brown was walked down the touchline to the supporters season ticket seat before a handshake, further hug and some photos.

It was a real wholesome moment from the Celtic legend as he showed his softer, personal side from the determined, winning at all costs player style he displayed during his career and now in his first managerial gig.

Speaking after the game, Brown told Fleetwood's website: “It’s a hard one, we drew three games. We’ve not managed to see the victories out, we’ve always been in them to be perfectly honest so it’s a bit disappointing, but the main thing was we showed determination, especially in the second half.

“We had to bring a couple of subs on, especially the first-team lads. They brought a little bit of composure on, a little bit of game knowledge and also that understanding of how to create chances and score goals.

“A young lad Sam Glenfield was fantastic today. His understanding of how to play that position, and he’s not been in that position a lot, but his work rate, determination, his willingness to win the ball in the tackle, it’s great to see a young kid having that passion and that desire.

“Take nothing away from Man United, they’re an excellent team and I’m sure they’ve got a lot of players that are going to have fantastic careers.

“In the first half, they gave us a lesson on how to keep the ball, an understanding of their game plan as well. They really caused us problems, we couldn’t solve it on the park, but in the second half I thought we did that a lot better and there were a lot of good performances as well.

“We controlled the game at times, we were always going to get put under a little bit of pressure, and at the end, we needed to score another goal to go through, so we were pushing bodies forward and we were always going to get counter-attacked at some point.”
