Celtic hero Scott Brown set for Frank Lampard showdown as Fleetwood boss earns Everton cup date

Scott Brown is set for the biggest test of his managerial career to date as he comes up against Frank Lampard and his Everton side in the Carabao Cup.

The Celtic hero has already produced one upset with his new Fleetwood Town side by knocking out English Championship new boys Wigan Athletic with Ged Garner heading the only goal of the game from close range to open his tally for the season. The reward is another home clash at Highbury against the English Premier League big guns.

Broony will also come up against a familiar face in former Rangers and Scotland international Nathan Patterson who is on the books at the Toffees. He made the move south of the border in a big money move from Ibrox earlier this year and finally landed his first top flight start in the opening day defeat to Chelsea.

Brown was no stranger to the big occasion as a player after leading Celtic on numerous occasions in the Europa League and Champions League. He will now take on his toughest test as a manager to date, with the game set to be played on the week commencing August 22.

Town have three league games against Morecambe, Cheltenham and Derby County before the cup showdown with Everton facing Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest prior to the meeting.

A Fleetwood Town statement read: "Fleetwood Town can confirm the club will host Premier League side Everton in Round Two of the Carabao Cup.

"Town found themselves in the pot for the Round Two draw after beating Sky Bet Championship side Wigan Athletic at Highbury on Tuesday evening, with forward Ged Garner opening his season tally after heading in the only goal of the game from close range.

"The fixture will take place on the week commencing 22 August."
