Celtic hero Scott Brown puts mentality poser to Fleetwood as form slump continues in bitter loss

Scott Brown says his Fleetwood Town players lacked the mentality required to see out their match with Exeter City in a bitter blow for the Celtic hero.

The former Parkhead captain's side got it back to 1-1 in the League One match but Sam Nombe's 93rd minute goal sealed a 2-1 victory for the home side. It's now just two wins in 90 minutes over the last 16 matches for Brown, who took over as manager at the third tier English side in the summer.

Fleetwood sit 16th in the 24-team division and Celtic hero Brown said: "We had a lot of possession of the ball like we knew we were going to have, but we didn’t create enough chances. We got in some good positions in the final third and managed to start some counter attacks, but the lads weren’t positive enough in the final area. They didn’t take the responsibility.

"That is very important as, late in the game, they managed to get down the line and put the ball in a dangerous area, and I can’t remember us doing that with the ball played at that pace.

“If you can’t win the game late on, you make sure you don’t lose it; you’ve got to have that mentality.

"That goes through the entire squad. You’ve got to have that desire to make sure you stay in the game for 97 or 98 minutes.”
