Celtic hero Scott Brown in 'waste of time' Fleetwood Town verdict as he slams first half display

Scott Brown has branded Fleetwood Town's first 45 minute display against Shrewsbury as a 'waste of time' in a hard hitting verdict of their performance.

The Celtic hero continues to settle into his first permanent job in management at the English League One club with his side sitting 15th in the table with three wins, seven draws and three defeats from 13 games. His troops are not far off the promotion play-off positions at this early stage and all three points would have aided their push - but Tom Bayliss' 30th minute strike for the visitors inflicted defeat on the Cod Army in a result Brown branded '100% disappointing'.

It was a night and day performance from Fleetwood with legendary Celtic captain Brown hailing the second half as 'brilliant' but it was the first period that didn't meet standards and Brown didn't hold back in his assessment.

He told Fleetwood's official website: “100% a disappointing result for us, the lads didn’t turn up in that first half. There was no pressure on the ball, however, the shape behind the ball was excellent.

“The lads need to drive themselves a bit more; It’s alright coming in at half-time and us telling them what to do but you’ve got to go and prove that we can win the game.

“Somebody must set the tone, whether it’s a tackle, a through ball or just something. We were always going to get caught on the counter with the number of bodies they were throwing forward, but for us it’s disappointing.

“I thought they [Shrewsbury] got their tactics well and were aggressive and probably deserved to go in with the lead in the first half.

“Flip it to the second half and I thought we were brilliant. Came out, got in their faces, and created so many chances but it’s small details. You’ve got to hit the target with shots. We needed to have more bodies in the box, willing to score a goal and I think that’s what we lacked today.

“I think we have been on the front foot in games, especially every home game, today as I say the first forty-five minutes was a waste of time. They must keep going out there and showing that they have that belief, but I think the players have to have faith between us and them.

“The lads have to understand that when we show them stuff, they have to do it and if they don’t then that’s what happens like today.”
