Celtic hero Scott Brown in 'on me' confession over 'sloppy' Fleetwood as he promises player changes

Scott Brown has taken the blame for Fleetwood's weekend defeat after putting faith in the team that worked so hard in the FA Cup loss to Burnley.

The Cod Army went down 1-0 to the English Championship leaders and returned back to league duty this weekend. They suffered another single goal defeat on the road with the Celtic hero admitting tiredness crept into the squad following their Turf Moor exploits. He's ready to ring the changes midweek in a bid to recapture the freshness and get back to winning ways after an impressive unbeaten run before the last two results.

The legendary Hoops skipper has branded the loss at Cheltenham as 'disappointing' and says his team were 'sloppy'. Fleetwood remain comfortable in mid-table with a healthy cushion above the bottom sides fighting for relegation at this stage. Next up is another game on the road against play-off chasing Wycombe.

Brown told Fleetwood's website : “That was disappointing; I think was on me a little bit as well because I put faith in the lads that did well the other night and I think tiredness crept into the squad. There will be a lot of changes coming up on Tuesday night as we need to be fresh for that game.

“We didn’t have any energy and didn’t have the quality on the ball either. We are normally neat and tidy, but we were sloppy today and gave away the ball too often. We knew what they wanted to do; they were sitting in a low block waiting for us to play through the middle of the park.

“The tiredness from the schedule showed today; as soon as we lost the ball, the reactions weren’t good enough, there wasn’t enough energy in the team, and they were off it in a positional sense as well, but I have to take responsibility for that one.”

He continued: “You speak to the lads, and they say that they’re ready to go and that’s a fantastic attitude, but from now on, we are going to have to think about how we are going to freshen things up. We went a wee bit too long, even from throw-ins as everyone knows Jayden [Stockley] is a unit who works hard.

“We’ve got to be a little bit smarter, play to people’s feet and be able to go around the corner, but we just went route one which is disappointing because we’ve worked on that over the last couple of weeks and they went back to just playing safe this afternoon.

“We didn’t have a shot on target and that is the biggest problem. We’ve come here and haven’t had good enough deliveries into the box, we didn’t anticipate things well, and they worked harder than we did and probably deserved the victory.”
