Celtic and Rangers fans are always locking horns over who is the better side.
But in the wake of Sunday’s Old Firm clash, the argument has become about who has the best second string. Celts fans pointed to players missing, but Rangers punters hit back over their own absences from Saturday’s win. Stevie Jackson, Barrhead, said: “I am fed up hearing that Celtic put out an understrength team on Saturday. Rangers played their third choice goalie, third choice centre back, second choice left back, first and second choice attacking midfielders injured, main striker on the bench second and third strikers injured. Any reasonable minded Celtic fan must be worried.”
Joe Smith, Coleraine, said: “Rangers were missing Helander, Roofe, Colak, Kent, Lawrence, Davis and Davies, so Rangers were severely under strength in comparison to Celtic.” Stephen Johnstone, Ardentinny, said: “Celtic went to Ibrox as league champions and left chumpions as Rangers played their best football this season. If John Soutar can stay clear of injury after his stunning display next season this team will be hard to beat.” Andy Adams, Kirkcaldy, said: “Why are Rangers looking to sign Jack Buckland? Is he better than Robby McCrorie? Possibly, but he's 10 years older. McCrorie has been fantastic, give him the nod, go with him, he's more than capable.”
James Robertson, Pollok, said: “Ange decided to leave players out to show how good a depth and quality he has in his squad it backfired on him his Invincibles ended up Invisibles against Rangers. They got everything they deserved."
But Hoops fans hit back and Peter Lyons, Blantyre, said: “Congratulations to Rangers winning their own treble. The Dead Rubber Cup. The Beating Celtic Reserves Cup and the Closing the Gap Cup. Now Celtic are going for the World Record Octotreble (a new word made by a good friend of mine) Let the party commence.”
Vince Fallon, Crossmaglen, said: “Congratulations to Rangers for winning the Next Year Will be Better Cup, the We Play the Better Football Cup and the We Don't Applaud the Champions Cup. Special mention to Connor Goldson, who should try Gaelic football.”
Kenny Wilson, Moffat, said: “Rangers fans and players are getting all overhyped about beating a Celtic team that was nowhere near full strength. Rangers won nothing they never beat Celtic when it matters and Celtic are in the verge of a world record equalling domestic treble. Yet again your cleaner has nothing to polish."
Bud Hay, Dumfries, said: “I said last week Celtic would lose as we can't beat them all the time. Rangers fans are already bragging about what they’re going to do next season but we have heard it all before. They’ve beaten us once in six games this season, that’s not much to brag about.”
Henry Moffat, Stirling, said: “Rangers fans are dreaming that Saturday's dead rubber meant anything as Celtic went into rest mode after the semi and were playing at 60 per cent tops. Hearts gave us a bigger going over the previous week. If it wasn’t for the great Rangers penalty conspiracy we would have won the league by 30 points.”
But Brian Mitchell, Glasgow, said: “We need to fill the void left by Scott Brown. It was so obvious that Rangers were going to come out and bully our players and nobody in green could handle it.” Meanwhile, Neil Renton, Edinburgh, said: “Well done to Aberdeen for ruling themselves of our joining the proposed Conference League. It’s good they’ve taken on board the feedback from their own fans which a lot of clubs don’t do.”
Finally Dundee United are rock bottom but they have more pressing problems apparently. Kenny Goff emailed: “Being at the United game on Saturday was really awful, but worst of all was the Tannoy system. No one could hear anything, the line ups, subs, nothing. It really does need updating badly.” Maybe he struggled to hear over all the booing.
