Celtic flop Vasilis Barkas suffers PSV nightmare with Utrecht as loan side hit for six

Celtic flop Vasilis Barkas and his Utrecht side suffered an afternoon to forget as he shipped SIX goals in a heavy defeat to PSV.

The Hoops goalie - on loan at the Eredivisie side - has started to find his feet once again after a disastrous time in Scotland following his big money move from AEK Athens during Neil Lennon's time in charge. The Greek international was included in the September Nations League squad with his form landing him a recall by Gus Poyet.

However, this defeat is one head coach Henk Fraser described as 'completely unnecessary' - particularly in reference to the final two games for the hosts. The Scottish links don't end with Barkas for PSV after Rangers and Giovanni van Bronckhorst eliminated them from Champions League qualifying in the play-off round this year.

Speaking after the game to FC Utrecht's official website, Fraser said: “I personally think it shouldn't have been 6-1. “But it's clear that we're going to start from here.

"I think the last two goals are absolutely unnecessary. Then it's still 3-1 or 4-1, it's still three points that you don't have. It still remains very disappointing and almost frustrating. But I think that 6-1 is completely unnecessary and that may give an even worse feeling.”

The heavy defeat on the road leaves Utrecht sitting mid-table in ninth position on 12 points after 10 games. PSV remain second - one point behind table toppers Ajax.

Next up for Barkas and Co is domestic cup action in the KNVB Cup against Sportlust '46 on the road before league matters next Sunday with Sparta Rotterdam coming to town.
