Rangers got back to winning ways against Dundee United while it was Celtic’s turn to slip up at St Mirren. Yet it seems fans of both halves of the Old Firm have faces looking more grey than the Parkhead side's weird third kit.
Hoops fan Bill Waugh emailed: “We never stop? Well that’s been blown apart. They never started. Plan B is now on. That’s three games now without a win for Celtic and we said Rangers are in trouble." Tam Williamson, Lanarkshire, said: “The shambolic coaches under Neil Lennon are still there and alive and kicking today. This has been exposed in Europe and at St Mirren. Why on earth Ange Postecoglou played a weakened team against the Saints beggars belief.”
David Bryce, Troon, said: “Although I have been delighted with some of Celtic’s recent displays, I have to say that Joe Hart really has to up his game.” Scott Gowers, Edinburgh, said: “For the first time this season Celtic have played in Europe with a league game a few days later and low and behold they get beat from the mighty St Mirren. The league's not going to be the canter that many Celtic fans thought it would be.”
Rob McNab, Dunoon, said: “Celtic’s play was as colourful as their kit. First sign of a couple of games a week and they fold like a deck of cards.” But Steve McSherry, Uddingston, said: “I knew we would lose sometime however I thought it might have been Hearts or Aberdeen. It was a shocking performance but as Ange says we never stop so onwards and upwards.”
Rangers ended their losing run against Dundee United but Gio van Bronckhorst and Ross Wilson are still in the firing line. Jimmy Mac, Glasgow, said: “It’s a sad fact that from being European finalists Rangers are now an average team that will struggle for second place let alone league champions.
“That lies squarely on Van Bronckhorst shoulders. His tactics are very poor, matched by his poor player selections but Ross Wilson is to blame for the inept recruitment. They should both resign as they have somehow managed to drag the club back five years in 4 months.”
Gordon Hendry, Ochiltree, said: “It was a much needed victory but I’m baffled why £4m signing Ben Davies is still warming the bench. He needs to bring in a decent defender, who's a free agent, purely as an interim measure. To have got rid of Leon Balogun and Niko Katic poses serious questions about GVB's judgement.”
Jamie Thompson, Clydebank, said: Van Bronkhurst is on borrowed time. The performance against Dundee United was really poor. Enough is enough.”
Kenny Miller claimed Ryan Kent is on a par with Celtic’s Jota in his column in our sister paper the Sunday Mail . But Gerald Kelly emailed: “Ryan Kent was nowhere to be seen at Parkhead, Jota has scored more goals since coming to Celtic than Kent has at Rangers in more than double the time. The only people they are fooling are themselves.”
Eddie Easson, Ballingry, said: “Comparing Kent with the Celtic players, just look at the goals. Assists or goal attempts count for nowt.”
Elsewhere, ref David Dickinson copped flak for the controversial Hibs penalty against Aberdeen. John Caw, via email, said: “The penalty kick at Easter Road was absolutely ludicrous as Porteous was the main culprit. Where do we get our referees, a lucky bag?”
And Rab Hunter, Dumfries, said: “With Lee Johnston saying 'another sending off which we’ve managed to force through our good play’, we have to assume Hibs actually practice cheating. You would like to think the SFA would want to take some action against.”
