Celtic fans buy Malaysian student they bumped into on the train a ticket to Madrid

A group of Celtic fans helped a Malaysian student book a flight to Madrid after they shared a few beers with him on the train to London.

Hoops fan Marks Strachan and his pals met Austin on the Avanti West Coast service as they headed to Stansted Airport ahead of the Champions League clash with Real Madrid tonight.

The Bristol Uni student began chatting the Celtic daft group on Monday - and after a number of refreshments, Austin was soon booked on the flight with the lads, writes the Daily Record.

The amazing tale was shared in a thread on Mark's Twitter and followers have been awaiting updates on Austin's adventures. The following day they got on the Ryanair flight before arriving in the Spanish capital and heading for more beers.

The group, along with their new friend, headed for a tour of Real Madrid's stadium, the Bernabéu, before speaking to reporters. One of the fans with Austin told the BBC Scotland cameras: “We got on the train in Glasgow and bumped into this man Austin.

"We had a few beers and got chatting away - he’s over from Malaysia studying at Bristol University - and after a few more beers we decided to book Austin a plane to Madrid."

Austin added: "I had five or six beers and I was just like, never mind, I’m going to be here anyway."

Pictures of Austin with his boarding pass walking through London, with a Celtic flag, having a few beers in Madrid and then at the stadium have been shared online.

The initial Tweet has been liked nearly 7,000 times and some other Hoops supporters in Madrid have even shared their pictures with Austin in the comments.

Celtic take on Real Madrid in their final Champions League group match at 5.45pm tonight. It's estimated between 7,000-10,000 Hoops supporters arrived in the Spanish capital ahead of the match.
