Celtic embarrass Scottish football every time they take to the European stage and that's coming from a Hoops fan - Hotline

Top Hotline billing was reserved for Rangers after their superb win in Germany over Borussia Dortmund and their fans believe it's a turning point in their season.

The joy from the Light Blues support was increased by Celtic's loss at home to Bodo/Glimt and several Bears had a pop at some Record Sport writers whose crystal balls were on the blink.

Tam Williamson, Lanarkshire, said: "Rangers deservedly won against a below-par Dortmund side and Celtic were deservedly beaten by a decent Norwegian outfit. But remember it's only half-time and both Dortmund and Celtic are more than capable of raising their game to a higher standard in the return matches."

Alan McGaw, Alloa, said: "What an absolutely fantastic performance from Rangers in the Europa League. It must rank as one of their best games away from home. I would have been happy getting a draw before the game but this was never in the script especially since the Record Sport reporters got their predictions wrong. The wake-up call against Celtic at Parkhead was the kick up the posterior we needed."

Lewis Fotheringham, Mount Ellen, said: "What a performance from Rangers, just sensational. It just makes our showing at Celtic Park all the more baffling. Ryan Jack brings so much to the midfield, so it is crucial he stays injury-free."

Bob Gray, Motherwell, said: "For two weeks we’ve had the Celtic fans on the Hotline bumping their gums arrogantly about how they are the new Barcelona. While Rangers were jostling with giants in Germany and making headlines, their all conquering Celtic were being taken apart by a team none of us had heard of."

Jimmy Strangers, Tranent, said: "What a result, Record Sport writers Scott Burns, Craig Swan, Gordon Parks and Fraser Wilson will all be eating large slices of humble pie after their predictions regarding the Rangers result against Dortmund."

In fairness, there can’t have been too many Rangers fans expecting the win.

Chris Lowe, Yoker, said: "The same people who touted Odsonne Edouard as being worth £40million for scoring mainly penalties for the French under 21’s surely must now admit European record breaking Alfredo Morelos is worth at least £30million or is the fact he hasn’t scored against Cowdenbeath on a Monday afternoon going against him?"

Paul Price, Belfast, said: "I'm a Celtic man and this Europa Conference League is nothing more than a distraction we can do without.

"Flying around Europe, coming home on a Friday morning then playing again on a Sunday. The league is a priority and this isn't sour grapes, that was a good result for Rangers."

Kenny Wilson, Moffat, said: "I shall eat humble pie after my prediction that Rangers would get a hiding and say well done on an incredible result. It was another disappointing European result and performance from Celtic where they were second best all night and it's hard to think of anything you can take that was a positive."

Kenny Taylor, Johnstone, said: "Celtic's result shows the massive difference between us and Rangers. That Old Firm victory means nothing, we are still the same old team who embarrass Scottish football every time we take the European stage. Rangers are well and truly back and my fellow Celtic fans should be worried for the rest of the season."

Benjamin Clarke, Balornock, "It was a poor midfield performance by Celtic. We were beaten by a sharper team and should send a second-string side to Norway and let’s concentrate on winning the league."

Paul McCormack, Coatbridge, said: "Celtic suffered a bloody nose against the Norwegians but we are a short period into a rebuild and have one trophy in the cabinet and are top of the league. Europe's been poor with goals conceded and there's still work to do but we are going in the right direction."

Robbie MacLeod, emailed: "Do Celtic get seeded for the Eurovision song contest if they fail to get through next Thursday?"

Bobby Pollock, Croftfoot, said: "The town of Bodo in Norway has less people than a capacity Celtic Park and If the Hoops are knocked out of the Conference League do they drop down to the Eurovision Song Contest?"

Hugh McKirdy, emailed: "Mark McGhee says his record shouldn't be based on one bad night in Aberdeen but has he forgotten about one day at Celtic Park? I'm an Aberdeen fan and I haven't, it was 9-0 I seem to recall."
